Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Are the patterns unused?  Yes, all our sewing patterns available on our website are unused.  The outer package may have shelf wear, markings, stickers, tears but the sewing pattern and instructions are new and unused. Disclaimer: We inspect our sewing patterns very carefully to insure you get a unused pattern.  Occasionally a used one slips through.
  2. Are the sewing patterns from pet and smoke free homes?  We cannot guarantee that the sewing patterns will come from a pet or smoke free homes.  We acquire these patterns from second-hand stores, garage sales, and eBay some of these patterns are over 30 years old and still are new!  No telling how many homes these patterns have had over the years.  We do smell and inspect our patterns carefully if we notice a strong odor we will not sell it.
  3. What do I do if I receive one that is used or not the quality I expected? Please accept our sincerest apologies and return the pattern within 30 days for a full refund.
  4. Do I have to sign up for an account to place an order? No, absolutely not!  We ourselves do not like to have to sign up for an account to order something on online and then you get those annoying emails, Hate it.  If you do not want an account do not sign up for one.  You have the choice to order as a one time guest.  You will never get emails from us unless you have specified that you would like to.
  5. How does the flat rate shipping work? Order 1 pattern or order 50, the shipping is still $3.00 flat in the United States.  International rates: Please refer to Shipping Page for current cost.
  6. Is my credit card information safe? By federal law, your credit card company will protect you against unauthorized purchases over $50. In the event of unauthorized use of your credit card, you must notify your credit card company in accordance with its reporting rules and procedures. 
    When you place an order in this site, Smiths Depot protects your credit card number and personal information by encrypting it. Encryption scrambles your credit card number and personal information. Do you really donate money and patterns to sewing ministries globally? YesWe started this in 2015, before 2015 we were donating to our local Salvation Army, Goodwill, and Value Village.  If you know of any sewing ministries in need please email us at and let us know a little about who you would like us to donate to.
